Building land literacy for a responsible renewable energy transition
India’s renewable energy (RE) transition is central to achieving net-zero goals and energy self-sufficiency. With RE capacity growing threefold in the last decade—reaching 227 GW in 2025—India now ranks 4th globally. Yet, securing and managing land for RE projects has emerged as a critical bottleneck.
As RE expands, land availability, access, and governance are becoming increasingly complex. Competing land uses, overlapping claims, valuation challenges, and limited local participation have put over ₹30,000 crore of investments and 1 lakh hectares of land at risk.
Despite its centrality, land literacy remains low across the RE ecosystem—among state departments, developers, and investors—making coordination and engagement difficult.
About the Workshop
This three-day workshop, organised by Landstack in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad, CBI, LCW, and Forum for the Future, aims to build understanding and capacity on land governance in India’s RE context. Through expert-led sessions, dialogues, and field activities, participants will explore:
1. The nuances of India’s land governance frameworks and institutional landscape
2. Global and national best practices in land access, valuation, and conflict mitigation
3. Tools and approaches for responsible, inclusive RE development
Objectives of the workshop
The 3-day training workshop aims to equip renewable energy (RE) actors with the knowledge and capacity to engage with land in an informed, effective, and responsible manner. It will expose participants to the nuances of India’s land governance systems, administrative practices, technological innovations, and global best practices for fair and sustainable land use in RE projects.
